9 questions and answers you should know before you start programming

Learn to program!

App developers are in high demand. In Germany, outsourcing to India is common practice. But now India is experiencing a developer boom - because Indian developers are in demand like never before. For all those who want to take advantage of this boom and jump on the bandwagon, we summarize some basic information here.

Learn programming

There are hardly any work sectors that do not benefit from digital technology solutions. Especially Startups and SMEs on digital solutions for reasons of organization and optimization of work processes as well as profit maximization. It's good if you know how to use software, apps and APIs. Even better if you can program them.

But how do you actually learn programming?

Even the programmers at appleute started from scratch at some point and are now among the best in their field... Maybe you'll be a part of us someday too?!

The following are questions that should be asked by anyone who wants to learn programming.

1. what direction to take to learn programming?

Whether it's a degree course, online course, self-taught or interactive - which direction you choose largely depends on why you want to learn programming and how much time you're willing to spend on it. If you want to become a mobile app developer, you should first sign up for professional courses, of which there are many on the Internet, for example. We are happy to give advice on choosing the right programming courses. If you want to develop mobile apps for fun in your spare time, interactive courses are the best choice. If you want to dedicate the next few years purely to programming, a degree course makes sense.

appleute Programmer come from diverse backgrounds. Most graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a degree in Computer Sciences. Others taught themselves programming. In the end, it's the skills, not the background, that matter.

2. which programming language to learn?

There is no one true programming language. Once you learn one programming language, you will see that it is easy to learn another - a self-reinforcing system. Don't spend too much time choosing your first programming language, even though some languages are more beginner-friendly than others. See here the appleute Tech Stack.

Which language you start with depends on what purpose it serves. For example, if you want to create an Android application, then Java or Swift would be useful - essential for our Android App Developer. Python is a good platform to build on.

3. as a programmer at some point out of school?

You can always learn something when programming. That's the best part of the job. Even our best full-stack developers and CTO are learning every day. Regardless of what language you speak, you never stop learning. In the beginning, anyway, you need to be patient. It's best to divide the development of your first programming project, such as a lightweight gaming app, into sprints or stages. If you get stuck at any point, look for help online. The developer community is supportive. There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

4. are there any ELI5 methods?

ELI5 stands for Explain Like I'm 5. Nowadays, even toddlers are learning to program. While many learning apps for kids are simple, some, like Scratchare suitable for all age groups. Regardless of age, you can also learn the basics of programming with animated children's apps. Even Harvard University is using animated apps in its Online course CS50 (Introduction to Computer Science) on Scratch as a learning environment and programming world.

5. are there any free online courses?

Yes, there are many free online courses and projects to help you write your first program. In tutorials like that of the Khan Academy, Codecademy and code.org you can learn for free the basics of programming and everything you need e.g. for the Mobile application development you need to know.

6. what about paid online courses?

Paid online programming courses offer more extensive training on average than platforms that offer online training for free in a single programming language. These courses usually teach basic university-level skills over several months. Nevertheless, you don't have to pay to enjoy a good basic education: Harvard University's CS50 course, mentioned above, makes it easy to get started in the App development free of charge.

8. Can I get a mentor or become one myself?

The Programmer Community consists of people who want to help others and are very happy to share their knowledge with others. So the community itself is a good mentor in a figurative sense. You can contribute to it too! Reciprocity is the principle of the developer scene!
