LAN

< 1 min read

LAN stands for Local Area Network, a computer network consisting of computers within a small geographical area. In fact, a LAN is basically any computer network that is local, both in terms of distance and geographic location. It is something like a super-fast Internet connection, but available only in a specific area.

LAN has evolved from a specialized business function to the backbone of every company's communications infrastructure. From hosting files and emails to delivering websites, it is now an essential part of everyday business. It is used in businesses around the world - from office buildings to warehouses to manufacturing plants - to connect computers.

Besides the technology used for data transmission, LAN communication depends on a specific medium for its success. This medium is Ethernet, which is also the most widely used transmission medium on the Internet.
